The Rhone giants deservedly won at home against a dangerous looking Lille side in the Ligue 1 at the weekend and moved level on points with leaders, Paris Saint-Germain.
Coach, Elie Baup is pleased with the fact that not only Marseille managed to claim maximum points against Les Dogues, they did so without conceding a goal, and the coach is relieved to get back to winning ways.
The 57-year-old was talking to reporters after the match and the witty tactician praised Marseille’s defence in particular. The coach said that Les Phoceens really needed to win this game, after some poor results in the last few weeks, and the players played

"That's three points, and we didn't concede a goal, we really needed to win, that was the most important thing for us.”
Baup said that both sides created some good chances on the pitch but Marseille did well to cope with the threat Lille posed at Stade Velodrome.
“It was an open game, of a good level. Lille had chances, so did we, and we won, that was all that mattered.”
The 57-year-old added that a goal lead wasn’t sufficient and he wanted Les Phoceens to score another goal in order to put the game to bed. The visitors attacked really well in the last five minutes of the game but Marseille did well to stop Lille from finding
the back of the net.
“The last five minutes seemed to go on for a very long time, our goalkeeper was decisive, and we held on to win.”
Elie Baup has urged his players to prepare for the upcoming games as some tricky fixtures awaits the Rhone giants in the Ligue 1.
“Now we need to recover quickly because we put so much into the game. You have nine teams separated by three points (in actual fact, four points separate the top eight).”
