The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach has heaped praise on his players after Les Phoceens managed to claim maximum points at home in the last game of the year against AS Saint-Etienne
Andre Ayew’s 45th minute strike was enough to earn Les Phoceens a much needed win at Stade Velodrome, and the result has put them level on points with Paris Saint-Germain and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 at the top of the table.
Olympique de Marseille showed strong nerves to collect maximum points against Christophe Galtier’s side and club coach, Elie Baup is pleased with the victory, he described as one of the toughest this season.
Talking to reporters, the 57-year-old stated that Saint-Etienne really made life difficult for his side on the pitch and Marseille had to play extremely well to get all three points. Les Phoceens’ home form has been a cause of concern this season and the
coach is pleased with a much needed win at Stade Velodrome at the weekend.
"We really dug deep to get the three points, it's been a while since we've won here.”
Talking about his team’s performance, the former Nantes boss said that despite some impressive performances this season, Marseille need to improve a lot in certain areas. Les Phoceens need to work on their one-touch passing but the coach is pleased with
the attitude of his players.
“There are quite a few things to improve, particularly in terms of moving the ball round, especially one-touch passing, but there is a lot of heart.”
Elie Baup added that Marseille didn’t think about Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais during the Saint-Etienne game and their sole concern was to claim maximum points at home.
“We didn't think about PSG and OL, we showed courage and self-sacrifice.”
The Frenchman said that in football, things can change very quickly and Marseille need to stay focused going into the winter break and come back even stronger.
“Things are fragile, they're held together by very little, but football is a story of men. The important thing will be to start again well in a difficult French Cup tie against Guingamp.”
