The Olympique de Marseille coach has heaped praise on the 30-year-old after his man of the match performance helped Les Phoceens collect maximum points against Stade Brestois 29 on Sunday

The on-loan midfielder from English Premier League side, Queens Park Rangers, set up both goals for his side as they cruised past a dangerous looking Brest side at Stade Francis-Le Ble at the weekend.

The Rhone giants looked in all kind of troubles against Landry Chauvin’s side but thanks to Joey Barton, they managed to collect all three points on the road. The result has pushed Marseille up to second in the league, and with 29 points on the table, things
are looking good for the nine-time champions of France.

Coach, Elie Baup is pleased with the performance of Joey Barton and has stated that the England international is like a new signing for the club.

The Frenchman was talking to reporters after the match and on a question regarding the 30-year-old, the boss had nothing but praise for the on-loan midfielder. Praising the player, Baup said that Marseille are lucky to have Joey Barton available for selection,
and he showed that the club was right to sign him with a stunning performance on the pitch.

The coach said that although the player hasn’t played a lot of games recently because of his 12-match ban, he is in good shape and has the experience to deliver at this level.

“When it comes to Joey Barton, we can't talk about him having to cope with a lot of matches in succession”

The former Nantes coach added that Barton has been preparing for a long time and he is fresh as compared to his teammates, which is a good sign for Marseille.

“He has been preparing to play for a long time and is fresh compared to the likes of Benoît Cheyrou or Nicolas N'Koulou.”

The coach said that against Brest, the former Newcastle United player was at his best as he set up both goals for the team.

“Against Brest, Barton brought something to the party, he's up to the rhythm and he contributes the capacity to move forward."
