The 57-year-old is not happy with Olympique de Marseille’s performance against Borussia Monchengladbach in their Europe League tie, but is still confident of reaching the next round of the
competition
The Rhone giants were on course to register a much needed win at Stade Velodrome but the Bundesliga outfit struck late in the game leaving Marseille’s hopes of qualifying for the next round in jeopardy.
The French club needed to win this game in order to secure a berth in the last 16 stage of the competition. However, the draw has put a question mark on their Europa League’s credentials and OM are in a stage where they can’t afford any more hiccups.
While talking to reporters, OM coach, Elie Baup stated that it was a hard defeat to digest and conceding such a late goal is really disappointing. However, the coach is still optimistic about Marseille’s chances of progressing in the Europa League and has
urged his players to stay focused.
The former Saint-Etienne coach added that Les Phoceens are still very much in the competition and they can qualify for the next round by winning their remaining games of the competition.
“Everything is still possible in this group if we win our two remaining games, as long as they don't win both of their games.”
The coach said that despite the draw, there are several positives to be taken from Thursday’s game and it was a good game for the Rhone giants in many aspects.
“We need to look at the positives, certain players such as Souleymane (Diawara) got some game time and we played some good football as we hadn't produced that much quality football in a long time.”
Elie Baup said that everything is possible at the moment and has already turned his attentions towards domestic matters. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 will take on OGC in the league this Saturday and the coach would not accept anything but all three points from
that game.
“We are still in with a chance of going through. To concede so late on is hard to take, frustrating, but now we need to be ready to go again when we play Nice on Sunday."
