Elina Svitolina crushes Rutuja Bhosale to reach the quarter-final round – Royal Indian Open 2012
Seventh seeded Ukrainian contender, Elina Svitolina, registered a cracking straight sets victory over the local wildcard participant, Rutuja Bhosale, in the second round of the Royal Indian Open on Wednesday afternoon. She needed
merely 56 minutes to post a 6-3, 6-0, score line to crush the local hopes and earned a place in the quarter-final round of the WTA Challenger Series event in Pune, India.
Apart from some early resistance shown by Bhosale, it was a completely one-sided affair. Svitolina dominated every minute of the contest and absolutely blasted her way to the round of eight. Her 16-year-old opponent proved no match
for her and couldn’t beat her in any segment of the game, eventually falling in straight sets to finish on the losing side.
18-year-old Ukrainian fully capitalized on the error-ridden game play of her Indian counterpart and cruised through the two sets without any real challenge. Bhosale kept spilling faults all the way, including eight taxing double
faults, to assist the seventh seed cruise to victory. Her inexperience played a huge part in her defeat and couldn’t anticipate Svitolina’s moves in the contest. She was often found wrong-footed during the rallies and her superior-ranked opponent kept firing
assertive winners all the way to victory.
Bhosale started off with a decent pace and struck an early blow to her opponent to break into the lead. She had three more break opportunities but couldn’t cash any of those and had to pay the price later in the set. Svitolina
shifted her gears and nailed two successive break points to turn the tables on the Indian. She never allowed Bhosale to hold her serve in the match after that and went for a 10-game killing spree en route to victory. The Ukrainian secured 14 out of 18 first
serve points and converted two of six break points in the opening set to conclude it at 6-3.
Three successive breaks of serve in the following set left no chances of a comeback for Bhosale and she stood on the tennis court as a mere spectator. Svitolina won seven out of nine first serve points and broke the Indian serve
three out of 10 times to wrap up victory with a bagel, 6-0.
