Elina Svitolina slaughters Vera Dushevina to enter round two – Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge 2012
Ukrainian starlet, Elina Svitolina, devastated the Russian veteran, Vera Dushevina, with a bagel at the Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge 2012 on Monday. She notched up a 6-4, 6-0 victory against the former Top 40 to progress into the second round at this ITF
(International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Seeded sixth in this event, Svitolina showed superb skills and abilities to crush the 26-year-old in their first encounter. She smoothly carved out a straight set victory and moved a step closer towards the prize money at this outdoor hard court tournament
taking place from 26th November to 2nd December.
The 18-year-old assertively entered the Habtoor Grand Beach Resort and Spa. She swiftly slid her entire serves with conviction. Svitolina required a single break of serve near the end and pulled out the opener with a 6-4 score line. She brushed off the only
breakpoint she faced and cashed the lone break chance to inch towards her goal.
Ranked 119th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Svitolina went out of control in the following set. She quickly reeled off six games in a row and pocketed a bagel. The Ukrainian kept her entire serves without facing any
hindrance and converted all three break opportunities to her advantage.
The Ukrainian teenager is enjoying a great season. She is coming off winning a title at the Royal Indian Open, a WTA Challenger event held in Pune. Svitolina crippled the former world number four, Kimiko Date-Krumm, in straight sets to grab the title.
Svitolina hasn’t had much success on WTA Tour this season but was able to enter the main draw of US Open and Kremlin Cup. On the ITF Women’s Circuit, she captured two titles through her brilliant display of tennis. She cruised past her rivals to grab title
at the La Marsa ITF event (overpowered Isabella Shinikova in final round). The Ukrainian grabbed her second title at the Telavi ITF event in September (downed top seeded Lesia Tsurenko with a breadstick in title-round).
Next in line for the Ukrainian youngster is the winner of the match between Thailand’s Luksika Kumkhum and the Romanian qualifier, Cristina Dinu.
