Elio Rojas: I will nail Jhonny Gonzalez to take back what rightfully belongs to me – Boxing News
Elio Rojas, the former WBC featherweight champion, recently shared his thoughts in a jam-packed press conference about his upcoming bout with Jhonny Gonzalez. He iterated that he is ready to take back what rightfully belongs to him, adding that his right
hand injury forced him to forfeit the title but now he is fit and in prime form.
Elio and Jhonny are scheduled to headline the most anticipated pay-per-view which is being promoted by the trio of Reginaldo & Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo, Antonio Lozada of Baja Boxing and Jose Gomez of Cancun Boxing.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Grand Oasis Resort situated in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico and the showdown will be co-headlined by the IBF super featherweight championship clash between Juan Carlos Salgado and Martin Honorio.
The duo recently met at the pre-fight press conference and shared their resolve to put forth the boxing fans a memorable bout. Gonzalez, 30, will defend his title for the fourth consecutive time and will enter in his career’s 58th bout.
The Mexican proud boasts 51 wins and has nailed 45 of his opponents by sheer knockout. During the press conference, Jhonny vowed to defend his title against the former champion.
Gonzalez commented, “I feel good for this fight. I’m the champion now. I won it in Japan and have made three defenses. I hope Rojas stands and fights and give a great fight for the good of boxing.”
On the other hand, Elio, who faced a serious hand injury that forced him to stay outside the ring since his last September 2011 bout, stated that he has trained very hard for this comeback bout and added that he has vowed to return to his country with the
title round his waist.
The Dominican proud Elio, also known as the ‘Kid’, remarked, “I came here to get my belt. I am a great fighter and trained very hard for this fight. I feel good, I’m focused and will fight every minute like it was the first of the fight. I am sure to return
to the Dominican Republic with my world title.”
The bout will be a tough one since Elio is a former champion who is in dire need to take back his title whereas Jhonny is entering the ring with a huge experience in his gear. The odds are in favour of Gonzalez since he also possesses the hometown advantage
in addition to several others.
But if Rojas comes up with a unique game plan and stuns Jhonny in the early rounds by his jabs, he may again grab the gold that once shone round his waist. The bout will be televised live on April 28, 2012 on Mexico’s state television channel ‘Televisa’.
