Elio Rojas, the former WBC featherweight champion, recently vowed to put up a great show against Jhonny Gonzalez, the current WBC featherweight champion, and said that he is in great shape and wants to inform Jhonny that he does not deserves the title in
fact was given the gold adding that he will duly take it back from him.
Elio and Jhonny are scheduled to take on each other in a 12-round bout on April 28, 2012 and will headline the pay-per-view promoted and organised by the trio of Reginaldo & Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo, Antonio Lozada of Baja Boxing, and Jose
Gomez of Cancun Boxing.
The ring for the Saturday night show will be stretched at Grand Oasis Resort situated in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico and the event will be co-headlined by the 12-round IBF super featherweight championship bout between Juan Carlos Salgado and Martin Honorio.
Elio, 29, is the underdog at the moment as far as the experience is concerned. The Dominican proud has been in a total 24 bouts and boasts 23 wins with 14 of them via knockout. He has collected just one loss in his whole career against Gamaliel Diaz.
Rojas is a tough young lad who forfeited his WBC title in 2010 and since his last successful title defence against Guty Espadas Junior, ‘The Kid’, Elio has fought just one bout with Arturo Gomez and collected an authoritative eighth-round technical knockout
win.
Despite being 16th in the world rankings as compared to Jhonny, who resides at the third rank, the Dominican proud possesses the potential and the desire to make a comeback in the top ranks.
While undergoing his training session at the Miami Tropical Park, Elio commented, “I feel great. I’m having good physical preparation and it will be a great fight against a great champion.”
Elio stated that Gonzalez should understand the fact that he did not win the title credibly and commented, “Jhonny Gonzalez should know that this belt was given to him. I’ve already said it several times, but the story will be different with me. I will take
[the belt] back because I have the boxing skills and the quality to do it. It will be a great fight that day and the winner will be me!”
Jhonny, 30, has been in a total 58 bouts and emerged victorious in 51. He has nailed a huge 45 opponents by knockout and is considered undoubtedly as the favourite because of various reasons. This will be Gonzalez’s fourth title defence bout.
