Elise Pidutti and Max Muggeridge excel in swimming events – 2011 Australian State Age Championships
Elise Pidutti of New South Wales and Max Muggeridge of Queensland excelled in the semi-finals of 50m breast-stroke swims in their relevant age groups on day two of 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The event took place on September
18, at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
Pidutti clinched top qualification spot of the breast-stroke swim in Girls 13-14 years old category. She clocked a top ranked time of 32.41 seconds to enter into the final as fastest swimmer. She was trailed by Molly Muir of Queensland, who improved her
swim in the second round and reached the final as second fastest swimmer, with a timing of 32.75 seconds.
The third qualification spot of the swim was secured by Karlene Pircher of Victoria, who failed to sustain her fastest qualification spot and settled as the third best finisher with a timing of 33.05 seconds. Pidutti’s team-member, Michael Campbell was the
fourth best swimmer to qualify for final round, as she remained 0.27 seconds behind Pircher and ended her race in 33.32 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in 14-15 years old Boys category, where Muggeridge impressed the arena with his alarming swim of 29.25 seconds in the semi-final. With his superior swim, he not only qualified as the fastest swimmer into the finals, but he also
met the expectations of his fans by sustaining his fastest spot. He was in a lead of 0.06 seconds over Jake Baggaley of New South Wales, as he appeared on the wall with a timing 29.31 seconds. Baggaley was followed by Rory Franks of Western Australia and AD
Vander Zant of Queensland, who qualified as the third and fourth fastest finishers, with timings of 29.77 and 29.79 seconds, respectively.
In the 15-16 years old Girls breast-stroke discipline, Jessica Hansen of Victoria made her way to the final with a fastest time of 31.61 seconds. She was trailed by her team-member, Lily Collins and Queensland’s Hanna Beighton, who ended their swims in second
and third places with timings of 31.95 and 32.26 seconds, respectively. Beighton’s team-member, Taylor McKeown was the fourth swimmer to qualify for the final, as she posted 32.57 seconds.
Meanwhile, Tommy Sucipto of Western Australia earned top qualifying position of the 50m event in 16-17 years old Boys class, as she produced a time of 28.57 seconds. He was chased by Tim Cottam and Jesse King of New South Wales, who clocked a time of 29.00
and 29.04 seconds for second and third positions, respectively.
The arena enjoyed the beautiful efforts of all participants, while these swimmers will compete with each other in the finals of their respective events.
