Elise Pidutti and Max Muggeridge shine in swimming events – Australian State Teams Championships
Elise Pidutti of New South Wales and Max Muggeridge of Queensland dominated in qualifying rounds of 50m breast-stroke swims in their relevant age groups at the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships, on September 17, at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
Pidutti demonstrated her phenomenal swim in the two-lap breast-stroke swim, as she improved the age group mark of the same event, by submitting a time of 32.35 seconds. She was trailed by her associate Michael Campbell, who remained 0.72 seconds behind her and clocked a second fastest qualification time of 33.07 seconds to enter the final. The third qualifying position of the event was secured by Karlene Pircher of Victoria, who remained just 0.17 seconds behind Campbell and clocked a time of 33.24 seconds.
Pircher was trailed by Molly Muir of Queensland, who completed her double lap breast-stroke swim, by submitting an effort of 33.48 seconds. Muir was trailed by Chelsea Unwin of Western Australia, who remained 0.57 seconds slower than her and reported a fifth fastest time of 34.05 seconds. Just after 0.50 seconds from Unwin, Abbey Harkin of New South Wales concluded her breast-stroke swim and entered the final round with a sixth fastest qualification effort of 34.55 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed a noteworthy effort of Muggeridge, who dominated the equivalent event in 14-15 years old class. He clocked a wonderful time of 29.04 seconds for the best qualification seat. He was followed by AD Vander Zant of Queensland, who followed him on the finishing wall with a second fastest time of 29.87 seconds. Zant was trailed by Jake Baggaley of New South Wales, who remained 0.18 seconds slower than him and posted a time of 30.05 seconds for third seat into the final.
Meanwhile, the arena sighted the gruelling effort of Western Australian swimmer, Rory Franks, who remained just 0.10 seconds behind Baggaley and completed his swim in a fourth fastest time of 30.15 seconds. Franks maintained a lead 0.36 seconds over Zant’s team-member, Mark Ragel, as he was the fifth finest swimmer to reach the final round with a timing of 30.51 seconds.
Moments later, Jack Collins emerged on the finishing wall for sixth best qualification spot, as he clocked a time of 30.58 seconds. He was chased by Baggaley’s team-mate, James Traiforos, who was 0.40 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and ended his swim in a seventh best time of 30.98 seconds.
In addition, the session concluded after the completion of all scheduled events, while these competitors will face each other in the semi-final of their respective events.
