Your thoughts on this 2hour and 50mins broadcast for 5 fights! The fights were pretty good but what about the broadcast itself? The show came on at 9pm. The first fight didn't come on till 930pm? What the h**l was that about? Thank god for Spike TV showing a Chuck Liddel special during the same time and thank god for cable DVR box/Tivo. The fast forward button came in very handy tonite.

  1. It went real well for them, in the first hour and a half there was only 9 mins of fighting :)

It went over 45mins it was even allowed.

CBS will be fixing it better that is for sure.

  2. If they had better ratings than the last few weeks programming then it was a success.  Running long isn't the problem, baseball games do it all to often.  This will be judged a failure if it did not win its timeslot.  That I wonder myself.

  3. It may get better, but the "pilot" MMA programming was a complete disaster for CBS! The amount of commercials between the fights was absolutely absurd!  The ringside doctors were a JOKE-  at best.  I started to wonder if that little woman was really a doctor or a Burger King cashier hired by CBS to 'ease' the American public into MMA.  Anyway, I truly hope she was fired for those BS stoppages.

    The Bad:

The 3rd round stoppage in the Lawler vs. Smith fight was literally preposterous, to say the very least.  Scott was willing and ready to complete the rest of the round/fight.  He was no more in harms way than was Thompson initially climbing into the ring with a blood-filled sack attached to his skull.  And that stoppage was a joke as well…   but, a little more acceptable than the Lawler/Smith intervention.  Kimbo was gonna knock him out, regardless.

This is MMA, folks...   let the boys and girls bang it out!!  If you do not like the violence, turn the f'ing channel already.  If CBS cannot handle the severity of MMA, do not broadcast it on national television- plain and simple.  Do not make the audience suffer because a few suits in a lofty office are afraid of offending a few shareholders or some old timers sitting in front of the boob-tube.  This is a pugilistic sport that is here to stay, so get over it and allow the rest of us to enjoy the matches in their most raw form.

    Now for the good:

If you have rabbit ears on a 35-year-old GE television or even the most basic of cable/satellite packages, it was FREE to watch.  WTF is going on with the UFC fight prices these days, Dana?  Because of your tactics, you're losing your fan base and fighters to the likes of PRIDE, Elite XC, IFL and Strike Force.  Get with the f'ing program already!

Now- get rid of some of the commercials, get rid of that d**n doctor/cashier and allow the kids to fight, then CBS will have huge success with this programming!  We love MMA and it's so nice to be able to watch it for free once and a while.

Thank you Elite Extreme Combat for a great night of fights!

  4. tonights fights were great match ups but the whole elite xc is a joke.. there should be a ultimate fighter that stars all the elite xc fighters so that they can get out of that organizations and come to a professional organizations that knows how to run its business.  i truly feel bad for the fighters that fight for elite cause they make exciting fights but the organizations is to political. they stopped those fights way to early tonight and it is a shame cause they were really throwing blows,  thank god for spike tv mma doesn't belong on prime time and tonights broadcast proved that.    fighters were GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. My  main complaint would be  that they strung it out so long.  They could have fit all those fights into 2 hours.  Next time I'm going to record it and zap all the b.s.

Otherwise, the fights were very  good and competitive.  For those that maybe never saw MMA before, I think they got a good taste of what it has to offer.  Hopefully, this is a trend for MMA becoming mainstream.  Time will tell.

  6. It didn't live up to the hype.  Well, at least Kimbo Slice didn't...Uh, with all due respects to Mr. Slice of course.

About the final match, the moment I saw Thompson's freakish looking ear, I knew he was in trouble, and that was before he entered the ring!

In my opinion, Thompson shouldn't have even considered fighting anyone with an ear swollen and ready to pop like a pinata. What was he thinking? What was his trainers thinking?!

What was everyone thinking letting him enter a ring with an ear that looked like a balloon filled with blood!

I must say though, Thompson stood his ground against Kimbo Slice. At times he exposed Kimbo Slice's inexperience. He could've have pulled an upset, but again--that freakin' ear of his--it kept him from bringing down a legend.
