Question:

Elite XC - were all the fights stopped way too early or was it just me?

I only saw five of the bouts. I have never seen a UFC fight end with a fighter on his feet or because of a small cut under the eye. Is this really the way they are going to try to dethrone UFC as #1?

  1. Elite XC refs just may kill it, the fights should of longer, no doubt about that

  2. **** yeah, it was watered down completely, it was like watching the WWE...

I think since it was on CBS, they wanted to not make is seem to violent

  3. That Kimbo Slice sucked big time tonight. I've expected more out of his fight. The refferee stopped the fight and saved Kimbo out of shame. Any strong fighter out of UFC or Pride would submit  Kimbo.

That was the most terrible fight I've recently seen. These fighters should stay out of professional sport. They both suck.

I am very sorry for people who paid to watch this circus.

  4. I think some of it was a presentation to CBS to show that it is not ultra violent.

  5. to kamnet could Kimbo intelligently defend himself from Thompson's 19 unanswered elbows???

  6. There were only the 5 fights.  I was pissed about the last two fights.  If they had given Smith his 5 minutes to regain his sight, he could have easily continued.  That doctor stopped the title fight way too early.

I thought Kimbo should have been declared the loser in the second round when he was on his back getting elbows dropped on his head for the last 1:30 without defending himself.  I also agree that I have never seen a fight stopped when a fighter is still standing and ready to go.  Who cares if his ear falls off?  If he can still fight, let him fight.  The loser was ready to fight still, while Kimbo was down on his back gasping for breath.  If you ask me, Thompson looked like the winner and Kimbo looked like the loser.

I thought the women's fight being stopped between rounds was okay because the loser had a giant mouse under her left eye and her eye was completely swollen shut.  I don't think there was any way she could have continued.

I thought the first two fights were okay in how they stopped them.  The guys were clearly knocked out.

EDIT:  I have to agree with Danish R.  It did look a lot like WWE, which was a little disappointing.  I mean, I like WWE, but when I watch MMA, that isn't what I'm looking for.

  7. All the fight stoppages tonight were good IMO, the bottom line is that fighter safety is paramount, and if it looks like a fighter is not defending themselves, is not answering the referee's directions, or is just clearly out of it, then the referee has a duty to call the fight.

I take that back, the ending of the middlweight title fight was BULLSH~T, he should have gotten his 5 minutes to recover. But that was the call of the Athletic Commission, not the referee or the fight doctors.

  8. It was just you.

UFC stopped being #1 when they bastardized it by adding all of the lame gloves, removing the ghi, and making a mockery of the original intent of the sport.

  9. NEVER HAVE I SEEN A FIGHT CALLED LIKE THAT IN THE UFC ELITE SUCKS

  10. I thought that the fights were stopped early too.  The UFC is too big and has way better fighters for them to even think about dethroning them.

  11. i think you were right.  i was really pissed about the Middleweight title fight, then the main event too?!?!?  What a bad night for MMA.  Just what Dana White was afraid they were going to do to the sport on its first time on national TV.

  12. I think it was a case of CBS being careful with the safety issue as it was CBS' first primetime MMA program.Elite XC are also treading carefully as they want to start off on the right foot as a potential competitor to UFC.With a tie in deal with Japanese promotion DREAM, Elite XC (and the Athletic Commisssion ) would be more than concerned with fighter safety.
