Elizabeth Beisel and Ryan Lochte clinch titles in Gainesville: Day three – USA Swimming Sectionals
Day three of the USA Swimming Sectionals conducted several long course events in Gainesville, Florida, on Saturday, July 9.
Elizabeth Beisel of United States won the Women’s 100m back-stroke event, while she nabbed her second title of the night in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley meet. Ryan Lochte of Daytona secured gold in Men’s 200m IM, whereas, Dagny Knutson grabbed the
Women’s 400m freestyle crown.
Beisel captured the Women’s 100m back-stroke meet after touching the finishing wall in a sterling time of 1 minute and 02.98 seconds. In the meantime, Ellese Zalewski of Gator wound up second in 1 minute and 03.34 seconds and her colleague, Gemma Spofforth
earned third place honours in 1 minute and 03.72 seconds. Margaret L Chory finished fourth in 1 minute and 04.09 seconds, whereas, Alana Berrocal settled fifth in a time of 1 minute and 05.44 seconds. Clara Smiddy wound up eighth in 1 minute and 06.08 seconds.
Beisel also won the gold medal in the Women’s 200m IM meet with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 14.90 seconds. Sarah Bateman of Patriot snared silver in 2 minutes and 18.93 seconds, while Ekaterina Alyabyeva of Davie Nadadores clinched bronze in a time
of 2 minutes and 19.31 seconds.
In another event, Daytona Beach’s swimmer, Ryan Lochte captured the Men’s 200m IM crown with a winning time of 1 minute and 59.13 seconds. Earlier, Lochte posted the fastest time of 1 minute and 58.99 seconds, in June, 2011. The second place went to Conor
Dwyer in 1 minute and 59.53 seconds. The performance moved him to 17th place in the international swimming rankings of the current year. Marcin Cieslak of Gator wound up third in 2 minutes and 04.68 seconds.
Dagny Knutson snagged the Women’s 400m freestyle crown with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 10.29 seconds. Meanwhile, Andreina Pinto of Gator secured second position on the podium in 4 minutes and 13.37 seconds, whereas, Jamie Bohunicky rounded out the
top three swimmers in 4 minutes and 15.34 seconds.
