Elizabeth Beisel claims Women’s 400m IM title: Day eight – 2011 FINA World Championships
Elizabeth Beisel of USA claimed the title of Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) meet, on final day of the Federation International de Natation (FINA) organised 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, China.
Beisel earned the gold medal of the distant IM event, by presenting a beautiful swim of 4 minutes and 31.78 seconds. Her time was 2.33 seconds slower from the world record of 4 minutes and 29.45 seconds, set by Australian swimmer, Stephanie Rice at the 2008
Beijing Olympic Games. Her golden effort was 1.47 seconds behind the championship mark of 4 minutes and 30.31 seconds, made by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
Beisel was followed by Hannah Miley of Great Britain, who stayed nearly three seconds away from the gold medallist and submitted a time of 4 minutes and 34.22 seconds. Miley escaped her following swimmer, Stephanie Rice with a difference of only 0.01 seconds.
Rice clinched the bronze medal of the event, by reporting in a time of 4 minutes and 34.23 seconds.
She was trailed by Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain, who occupied the fourth fastest spot of the swim, by producing a time of 4 minutes and 34.94 seconds. Shiwen Ye of China was the fifth finest swimmer of the thirty-lap swim, as she remained 0.21 seconds
behind her subsequent swimmer and ended her swim in 4 minutes and 35.15 seconds.
Li Xuanxu of China and Barbora Zavadova earned the sixth and seventh fastest spots of the swim, with timings of 4:35.78 and 4:38.04 minutes, respectively. They were followed by Caitlin Leverenz of USA, who settled as eighth best finisher in a time of 4 minutes
and 38.80 seconds.
In addition, the arena applauded for the furious swims of all participants, while Beisel enjoyed her tremendous win in the 400m IM discipline. Furthermore, she also expressed her desire of defending her title at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, where
the best of the world will battle with each other.
