Elizabeth Beisel clinches Women’s 400m IM gold: Day three – ConocoPhillips Nationals Championships
Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish Swim Club displayed her phenomenal effort in the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) and claimed the title of the event on the third day of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Thursday, August 4, in Palo Alto, California.
The competition is a seven-day long course national championship, being held at the Avery Aquatic Center of Stanford University.
The 18-year-old Beisel impressed the arena by sustaining her fastest qualification spot in the final round, as she presented a gold winning effort of 4 minutes and 34.78 seconds. She was followed by Madeline Dirado of Stanford Swimming, who was 3.10 seconds
away from the champion swimmer and posted a time of 4 minutes and 37.88 seconds for second position.
Dirado was in a lead of 5.11 seconds over her following competitor, Natalie Adams of Aggie Swim Club, who earned the bronze medal of the distant IM swim, with a timing of 4 minutes and 42.99 seconds.
The next fastest finisher was Allysa Vavra of Indiana University, who stayed just 0.99 seconds away from occupying the bronze medal and ended fourth in a time of 4 minutes and 43.98 seconds. Vavra was trailed by Andrea Taylor of Stanford Swimming, who reported
as the fifth finest swimmer of the event, by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 44.28 seconds.
She was trailed by her team-mate, Julia Smit, who clocked a sixth fastest time of 4 minutes and 44.35 seconds. Haley Anderson of Trojan Swim Club was the seventh fastest finisher of the 400m event, as she stayed just 0.07 seconds behind Smit and produced
a time of 4 minutes and 44.37 seconds. Teresa Crippen of Germantown Academy stayed 0.59 seconds behind Anderson and ended her swim in the eighth fastest place, with a timing of 4 minutes and 44.96 seconds.
In addition, the crowd applauded for the terrific efforts of Beisel, while the gold medallist expressed happiness over her comfortably victory in the respective meet. Furthermore, the winners collected accolades and medals after the completion of the session.
