Elizabeth Beisel conquers Women’s 200m IM gold: Day One – 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships
Elizabeth Beisel conquered the title of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) meet on the starting day of the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Tuesday, August 2, in Palo Alto, California. The meet was held at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic
Centre.
Beisel of Bluefish Swim Club, who entered the finals with a second qualification time, remained dominant for the gold medal, by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 10.75 seconds. Her time was 0.51 seconds away from her following swimmer, Katie Hoff of Fast
Swim Team-C, who reached the podium for the silver medal, by reporting in a time of 2 minutes and 11.26 seconds.
Hoff was followed by Madeline Dirado of Stanford Swimming, who was just 0.66 seconds away from her subsequent competitor, who ended her swim in a third fastest time of 2 minutes and 11.92 seconds.
A week earlier, Beisel represented USA at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, where she transpired as the strongest 400m IM swimmer and clinched the title of distant IM event. She also won two gold medals in the events of 400m IM discipline and the
200m back-stroke at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine.
Nevertheless, Dirado’s time was only 0.16 seconds ahead of her closest rival, Melissa Franklin of Colorado Stars-C, who concluded her swim in a fourth fastest time of 2 minutes and 12.08 seconds. Similarly, Franklin overwhelmed the efforts of her following
competitor, Julia Smit of Stanford Swimming, with a difference on 1.65 seconds. Smit reported as the fifth finest swimmer of the event, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.73 seconds.
She was followed by Teresa Crippen of Germantown Academy, who claimed the sixth finest spot of the event in a time of 2 minutes and 14.00 seconds. Whitney Myers of Fast Swim Team-C and Jana Mangimelli of SwimAtlanta-GA/U secured the seventh and eight finest
spots of the swim, with timings of 2:14.13 and 2:15.21 minutes, respectively.
Furthermore, the winners received medals and accolades for their immaculate swims after the conclusion of the session.
