Elizabeth Beisel conquers Women’s 200m backstroke semi-finals – London Olympic Games
American backstroke expert, Elizabeth Beisel conquered the semi-finals of Women’s 200m backstroke on sixth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 2.
The 19-year-old Beisel demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the four-lap backstroke discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for first position. She faced tough competition from her opponents in the first three laps but proved her
mettle in the final lap and snared top position.
With her persistent efforts, she remained nearly full body length ahead of her competitors and tapped the finishing wall for top qualification spot by posting a time of 2 minutes and 06.18 seconds.
Beisel was followed by her teammate, Missy Franklin, who remained 0.66 seconds slower from her and settled on the finishing wall as second best finisher by posting a time of 2 minutes and 06.84 seconds.
Franklin was trailed by Meagen Nay of Australia, who remained 0.58 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing blockade as third fastest swimmer by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 07.42 seconds.
Subsequently, fourth best qualifying position of the discipline was chased by Anastasia Zueva of Russian Federation, who stayed 0.46 seconds slower and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 07.88 seconds.
Zueva was traced by Alexianne Castel of France, who was just two arm-strokes apart and settled on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 08.24 seconds.
Castel remained 0.08 seconds faster from Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe, who appeared on the finishing end as sixth fastest swimmer by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 08.32 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Elizabeth Simmonds of Great Britain, who remained 0.16 seconds slower and posted a time of 2 minutes and 08.48 seconds.
Simmonds was trailed by Sinead Russell of Canada, who was 0.28 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.76 seconds.
Beisel was overjoyed with her undisputed effort in the 200m discipline and said that she will try to meet expectations of her followers by winning gold medal of the event.
