Elizabeth Beisel conquers Women’s 400m IM preliminary heat: Day eight – FINA World Championships
United States’ Elizabeth Beisel impressed the arena with her aggressive swim on day eight of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Sunday, July 31.
The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 400m Individual Medley preliminary heat, where Beisel snagged the meet after she touched the finishing wall in an impressive time of 4 minutes and 34.95 seconds.
Mireia Garcia Belmonte of Spain wound up second in 4 minutes and 36.36 seconds, while Caitlin Leverenz of United States rounded out the top three on the podium with a time of 4 minutes and 36.78 seconds. Barbora Zavadova settled fourth in a time of 4 minutes
and 36.96 seconds.
Stephanie Rice of Australia finished fifth in the respective meet in a time of 4 minutes and 37.32 seconds. After the heat, Rice said, “[The 400 IM] is one of the races you don't want to do in the morning. It is kind of tiring. I did a pretty good job this
morning, but I need to keep some energy for tonight. It will be another hard race, but I will have fun.”
Hannah Miley of Great Britain earned the sixth spot with a time of 4 minutes and 37.39 seconds and Xuanxu Li of China finished seventh in a time of 4 minutes and 37.61 seconds. Shiwen Ye of China picked up the eighth spot with a time of 4 minutes and 38.18
seconds.
Meanwhile, Ye said, “I am satisfied with my performance today. I was relatively weak in the butterfly and breaststroke legs, so I think I need to work more on those. Generally, I relied on my freestyle leg in the race.” She further added that as the 400m
Individual Medley race is a challenging heat, she tried her best to put in her best effort.
Alexandra Komarnycky of Canada wound up ninth after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 4 minutes and 38.82 seconds, while Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary earned the tenth spot in 4 minutes and 38.84 seconds.
