Elizabeth Cann beats Anu Nieminen to enter into main round of the 2011 French Open Super Series
England’s Elizabeth Cann enters into Women’s Singles main round after beating Finland’s Anu Nieminen in the qualifying round of the 2011 French Open Super Series, in Paris, France, on Wednesday, October 26.
Cann delivered wonderful performance in the whole match and won it in three games by taking 52 minutes. Nieminen failed to stop the winning run of her opponent and lost the third set after putting up a good show.
Cann remained in good control in the first game and won it with a big margin. However, the English failed to make it a straight win as Nieminen played better game and won the second set. Cann came back in the third game with a different game plan and took
the set with a decent margin.
In the starting points of the opening game, Cann played wonderful game and built an early lead. She put pressure on her opponent and maintained it in the whole set. Nieminen tried to get rid of her rival but failed as Cann was playing to her full potential.
Until the break, the English shuttler set up a comfortable lead against the Finnish lady.
After the break, Cann continued her positive and planned game which helped her to stretch her lead. Nieminen accelerated her speed but failed to reduce the deficit as her opponent was playing flawless game. Cann took the first set with a huge difference
of 21-14.
In the second set of the match, Nieminen changed her tactics and played attacking badminton from all areas of the court. She employed powerful smashes to dominate the pace of the rallies and remained successful in setting up a wonderful lead. Cann failed
to play aggressive game in this set and lost it with a 15-21 score.
In the decider, both shuttlers played fast game and remained close until the break in the opening set. After the interval, both ladies remained close until the concluding points when Cann played a few superb shots and won the set with a margin of 21-18.
The match ended in 52 minutes with a 21-14, 15-21 and 21-18 score on the board.
