Elizabeth McDonald claims Girl’s 50 yard freestyle title: 2011 High School State Championships
The 2011 Connecticut High School State Championships were held in New Haven, Connecticut, from November 18-19. The session of the meet saw several attention-grabbing performances, out of which, SR Pomperaug’s Elizabeth McDonald impressed the arena with her
strong performance.
Elizabeth McDonald was battling against JR New Canaan’s Madeline Rusch and JR Amity’s Dana Grindall in the final race, as McDonald got off to a thrilling start in the pool and thumped the finishing divider in a scintillating mark of 23.28 seconds to take
Girl’s 50 yard freestyle title over her rivals. The arena rejoiced the swimming turns of SR Pomperaug’s athlete during the evening session.
After the race, Madeline Rusch and Dana Grindall claimed second place honours by banging the finishing barrier in an identical mark of 23.96, whereas, Madeline Dunn of JR Greenwich settled at fourth place by thrashing the finishing hurdle in a blot of 24.30
seconds.
JR Branford, SO New Canaan and JR Watertown’s secured the fifth, sixth and seventh places in the respective race. Christine Rasile banged the finishing wall in a time of 24.31 seconds for fifth position, while Jenna Egan claimed the finishing barrier in
24.42 seconds for sixth spot. The seventh place was clinched by Katherine Crochet in a mark of 24.49 seconds.
In addition, Megan Gray grabbed eighth position by belting the finishing blockade in a time of 24.72 seconds. Moreover, FR Waterford’s athlete, Asia Langley earned ninth place honours in the respective race by beating the finishing barricade in a blot of
24.73 seconds.
JR Hall’s Sarah Mantz got tenth position in a spot of 24.80 seconds, while Katherine Krajcik of JR Bunnell settled at eleventh place in a mark of 24.91 seconds. Last, but not the least, the twelfth position went to SO Weston’s Katharine Johnson after she
touched the finishing wall and ended her swim in a time of 25.00 seconds.
Elizabeth McDonald’s swimming effort inspired everyone sitting in the arena, while she went on to win the gold medal in the respective splash after the session’s completion.
