Elizabeth Pelton and Rachel Bootsma seize Women’s 100m backstroke gold – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Elizabeth Pelton of T2 Aquatics-FL and Rachel Bootsma of Aquajets Swim-MN seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on third day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Saturday, May 12.
The 18-year-old Bootsma remained prominent for gold medal in the first half of the race while her efforts where matched by Pelton in the second half and they tapped the finishing end for gold medal.
With their astonishing swims, the duo tapped the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 00.25 seconds.
Their invincible effort remained almost 0.60 seconds faster from Natalie Coughlin, who ended up her swim in third place by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 00.83 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Brienne Ryan of Una FORD-MR, who stayed nearly half body length behind and emerged on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 01.54 seconds.
Ryan remained just 0.30 seconds ahead of Dominique Bouchard of U of Missouri-MV, who secured fifth position of the event by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.84 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Men’s category, where Nick Thoman spoiled the party of his challengers and proved his mettle for gold medal of the event.
The 26-year-old Thoman stayed considerably ahead of his opponents and clocked a time of 53.77 seconds for gold medal.
He was followed by Ben Hesen of Pacesetter-IN, who remained half a body length behind and emerged on the finishing wall for silver medal by clocking a time of 54.19 seconds.
Third position of the event was secured by Eugene Godsoe of SwimMAC Carolina, who stayed only 0.03 seconds away and posted a time of 54.22 seconds.
Godsoe was chased by Kyle Owens of Auburn Univ-SE, who finished fourth in the event by posting a time of 54.97 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades at the medal ceremony of the championship.
