Elizabeth Pelton conquers Women’s 200m backstroke prelims: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Elizabeth Pelton of T2 Aquatics-FL conquered the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m backstroke on final day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 18-year-old Pelton went full rampant in the distant backstroke discipline and proved her mettle for top qualification spot of the discipline.
With her notable efforts, she remained considerably faster from her strongest challenger throughout the discipline and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 10.05 seconds.
With her incredible pace, she enjoyed an advantage of 1.74 seconds over Dominique Bouchard of U of Missouri-MV, who transpired on the finishing end as second position holder by producing a time of 2 minutes and 11.79 seconds.
Bouchard was chased by Kateryna Fesenko of Indiana Univ-IN, who remained 1.08 seconds slower from her and entered the final round as third best finisher by posting a time of 2 minutes and 12.87 seconds.
Fesenko remained almost two seconds faster from Stephanie Proud of Gator Swim Club, who emerged on the finishing blockade as fourth position holder by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 14.51 seconds.
The 23-year-old Proud was traced by Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish Swim-NE, who was almost 0.70 seconds behind and proved her eligibility for fifth position of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 15.21 seconds.
Sixth best qualification spot of the race was secured by Kathleen Baker of SwimMAC Carolina, who was just a touch slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.27 seconds.
Baker stayed 0.08 seconds faster from Brittany MacLean of Etobicoke, who made her way into the final round as seventh best finisher with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.35 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Amy Modglin of Unattached-MA, who remained just 0.02 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.37 seconds.
 In addition, the crowd enjoyed furious efforts of all participants while these finalists will race each other in the playoff to secure gold medal of the event.
