Elizabeth Pelton occupies Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day four – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Elizabeth Pelton of T2 Aquatics-FL occupied gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on concluding day of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Sunday, May 13.
The 18-year-old Pelton stayed prominently ahead of her challengers from the start of the event and ensured her place on top of the podium for gold medal.
Pelton’s quickest response to the start provided her a marginal lead over her challengers and she finished her swim for gold medal by posting a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 09.41 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort remained 1.17 seconds away from Stephanie Proud of Gator Swim Club, who proved her mettle for silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 10.58 seconds.
Proud was chased by Dominique Bouchard of U of Missouri-MV, who remained a half body length behind and secured bronze medal of the event by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 11.10 seconds.
Fourth spot of the discipline was secured by Kateryna Fesenko of Indiana Univ-IN, who was just 0.80 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end by posting a time of 2 minutes and 11.90 seconds.
Fesenko’s alluring effort remained nearly 3.50 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Kathleen Baker of SwimMAC Carolina, who completed her swim in fifth best place by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.25 seconds.
Subsequently, Baker was chased by Brittany MacLean of Etobicoke, who suffered a deficit of just 0.02 seconds from her preceding swimmer and ended up her swim in sixth best place by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 15.27 seconds.
Similarly, MacLean remained marginally ahead of Elizabeth Beisel of Bluefish Swim-NE, who completed her swim in seventh best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 15.31 seconds.
Furthermore, Pelton expressed happiness over her victory in the 200m event while articulated her desire of excelling in the same event at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games. In addition, winners were awarded medals and accolades for their gruelling
efforts after the completion of the session.
