Elizabeth Pelton secures Women’s 100m backstroke gold – Swimming news
Elizabeth Pelton of California Aquatics secured gold medal of Women’s 100m backstroke on day three of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at the George F. Haines International Swim Center on Sunday, June 2.
The 19-year-old Pelton lived up to the expectations of her followers in the 100m discipline as she was the only swimmer to post a sub one minute effort. With her epic pace, she remained in a prominent lead over her challengers in the first half and continued
the same to cement her place on the podium for gold medal.
Pelton qualified as the top fastest swimmer in the playoff of the 100m discipline and with her astonishing pace, she managed to secure the title. She remained in a marginal lead over her challengers and occupied the title with an effort of 59.88 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C, who was 0.14 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the finishing end for silver medal with an effort of 1 minute and 00.02 seconds.
Franklin was chased by Rachel Bootsma of California Aquatics, who was 0.95 seconds behind and completed her race in third place by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.97 seconds.
The third best finisher was Kendyl Stewart of NCA-SI, who was only 0.20 seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 01.17 seconds for fourth place.
Emily Seebohm of Aus-Aus, who was just 0.56 seconds behind and made her way towards the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 01.73 seconds, obtained fifth fastest spot of the race.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who was only 0.40 seconds away from her former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.13 seconds.
Subsequently, Romano was followed by Bonnie Brandon of Tucson Ford Deal, who was 0.09 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 02.22 seconds for seventh place.
Eighth spot of the event was obtained by Cindy Tran of GWSC-CA, who was 0.76 seconds apart and posted 1 minute and 02.98 seconds in the race.
In addition, Pelton was overjoyed with her top finish in the race and stressed her desire of continuing the same at forth coming events of international swimming.
