Elizabeth Roberts seizes Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day three – USA Swimming Sectionals
Elizabeth Roberts of Savannah Swim Team seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on third day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Saturday, July 14.
The audience enjoyed invincible efforts of Roberts in the double lap breaststroke discipline, as she showed no mercy to her opponents and reached the top of victory stand for gold medal.
Roberts remained marginally ahead of her opponents and made her way to the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 12.17 seconds.
Her stupendous pace remained 0.15 seconds faster from Ka Rechsteiner of Delaware ST-MA, who followed her on the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 12.32 seconds.
Her scintillating pace remained 1.31 seconds faster from Kennedy Lohman of Lakeside-KY, who proved her eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 1 minute and 13.63 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was secured by Madison Horton of SA-GA, who suffered a deficit of almost two seconds from Lohman and reached the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 15.26 seconds.
Lohman was trailed by Daniell Jansen of RAYS-OH, who remained 0.18 seconds apart and secured fifth fastest spot of the race by posting an effort of 1 minute and 15.44 seconds.
Jansen was trailed by Rebecca Brooks of Una NCAC-NC, who remained 0.28 seconds behind and ended sixth in the discipline by touching the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 15.72 seconds.
Moments later, the spectators experienced dazzling performance of Carlos Almeida in the Men’s equivalent event. The 23-year-old Almeida stayed just a touch away from his subsequent competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.26 seconds
for gold medal.
His gruelling effort remained 0.03 seconds faster from Nelson Westby of MAC-NC, who stepped on the victory stand as second position holder by producing a time of 1 minute and 02.29 seconds.
The 25-year-old Westby was chased by Jake Matysek of Silver Bullet EL, who remained three body lengths apart and ended third in the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 05.16 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by his teammate, Maxim Litvinov, who stayed 0.68 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 05.84 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Christopher Dong of Duke Aquatics-NC, who finished his race by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 05.98 seconds.
