Elizabeth Simmonds and Daniel Sliwinski lead swimming events – British Gas ASA National Championships
Elizabeth Simmonds and Daniel Sliwinski excelled their performances in the qualifying rounds on the third day of the 2011 British Gas ASA National Championships.
The first session on the third day included the events of the 200m back-stroke, 50m breast-stroke, 50m freestyle, 100m breast-stroke, 100m back-stroke and the 800m freestyle in the Men’s and Women’s open class category.
The session initiated with the Women’s 200m back-stroke, where Elizabeth Simmonds qualified as the fastest swimmer in the final, posting a time of 2:11.53 minutes. She was followed by Georgia Davies and Karley Mann, who became visible
for the second and third fastest qualifications, with timings of 2:13.00 and 2:14.01 minutes, respectively.
Moments later, Daniel Sliwinski captured the fastest qualification seat in the Men’s 50m back-stroke. He touched the wall in a fastest time of 28.06 seconds and stayed 0.69 seconds away from his following swimmer, Matt Shead. Shead
qualified as the second fastest swimmer in a time of 28.75 seconds and stayed ahead of Tom Rooke, who touched the wall for third fastest qualification in a time of 29.02 seconds.
In the Women’s 50m freestyle, Amy Smith snagged the top qualification spot, producing a time of 25.69 seconds. Georgina Heyn and Emma Wilkins finished their swims behind Smith and settled as the second and third fastest sprinters,
with timings of 26.04 and 26.11 seconds, respectively.
Next was the same event in the Men’s corner, where Simon Burnett occupied the fastest qualification spot, by clocking in a time of 22.66 seconds. He was followed by Grant Turner and Matthew Tutty, who entered the final round as
the second and third fastest contenders, with a qualifying time of 22.82 and 23.04 seconds, respectively.
After few minutes, Stacey Tadd achieved the top qualification spot of the Women’s 100m breast-stroke, with a top timing of 1 minute and 10.52 seconds. She was slightly away from her closest competitors, Jodie Hawksworth and Georgina
Heyn, who met the criteria of the second and third fastest spots in a time of 1:11.39 and 1:11.50 minutes, respectively.
Similarly, Marco Loughran dominated the Men’s 100m back-stroke swim, where he clocked a time of 55.14 seconds for the top qualifying spot. Chris Walker Hebborn and Matthew O’Brien were marginally away from him, as they finished
second and third in a time of 55.44 and 55.95 seconds, respectively.
Danielle Huskisson succeeded in the final event of the session, which was the Women’s 800m freestyle. She earned the top spot in a time of 8:48.37 minutes ahead of Aisha Thornton and Helen McRoberts. Thornton and McRoberts were
the second and third fastest swimmers, with timings of 8:48.52 and 8:56.92 minutes, respectively.
The British swimmers displayed wonderful swims in their respective events, while more is expected from them at the upcoming meets.
