Elizabeth Simmonds dissatisfied with her performance at 2011 British Gas Swimming Championships
Elizabeth Simmonds of England has said that she is hugely depressed and frustrated by her individual performance in the competitive swimming events at the British Gas Swimming Championships in the Manchester Aquatics Centre in 2011.
She lost the vital World Championships qualifying events, including women’s 100m and 200m backstroke styles in March 2011. As a result, she failed to qualify for the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai in July.
Simmonds stated, “I didn't swim anywhere near as well as I could have or would have liked to. Looking back I see what happened as a positive and I'm over it. You can't perform every single time you race.”
The 20-year-old swimmer still has a vibrant chance of qualifying for the FINA World Championships 2011 at the ASA Championships which are going to be held in Sheffield in June.
The 2008 Olympic finalist is confident to make a big comeback at the ASA Championships and confirm her spot for the Shanghai World Championships later in 2011.
Lizzie Simmonds lost her vital world championship qualifying matches over Gemma Spofforth in 100m and Steph Proud in 200m in March 2011.
She admitted that she was not able to perform according to the plan in Manchester and it was not her individual swimming style at all. She says she does not have any major reason but it just did not go well for her. However, she strongly believes that many
renowned swimmers go through the phase at some stage of their careers.
“To come through that and be back to the Lizzie Simmonds that we all know, back to the way I normally race, will be a positive thing for me, to realise I can get through it and I can be a better swimmer for it,” she said.
Moreover, she wants to improve her swimming styles for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Meanwhile, a lot of British swimmers are preparing hard for their World Championship campaigns in Shanghai later in 2011. The double Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington has been preparing strongly for her next burst in China.
Many other popular swimmers like Rebecca Soni and Fran Halsall have been training hard for their mega challenge in Shanghai.
In the men’s swimming list, Michael Phelps will be the hot favourite to clinch more gold titles in China.
