For a SOSE assignment I am doing Elizabethan England. I am stuck on 2 questions! If anyone has answers or know of websites that have answers, I'd give them 10 points if it's helpful!!!!!!! Questions:

1. What was it like for the women of Elizabethan England?

and

2. Were there schools in Elizabeth England (and what were they like)?

  1. Here are some good sites for you.

    Elizabethan women were ruled by their men, and had no rights.  They had to obey their fathers, or husbands, or the man of the house.  They couldn't choose their own husbands; this would be done for them by their fathers, usually in order to increase the families' wealth and land.  Poor women had it a bit easier, though, as they were more able to choose their own husbands and marry later.  Women's roles were to bear children, particularly boys, and many spent each year being pregnant - if they didn't die in childbirth.

    Noblewomen were given an education, though at home.  Lady Jane Grey and Elizabeth I were notably great intellectuals, and well educated.
