Hamburg SV winger, Eljero Elia, has revealed that many top clubs including Liverpool and Juventus were after him in the January transfer window this year. He claimed that the club had declined many offers in order to keep him but insists he had made the
right decision to stay.
The talented winger has generated a lot of interest from top clubs and is expected to leave Hamburg in the summer with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 reportedly heading the race to sign him. Elia is valued at around 20 million Euros and the player could be on his way in search
of first team football after playing only 21 times this entire season.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 in the winter transfer window after a reported dispute with then coach, Armin Veh. The dispute led the midfielder spending most of the first-half of the season on
the bench.
The Dutchman insisted that the likes of Liverpool, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 and Juventus were interested in signing him on a loan deal which could be made permanent at the end of the season depending on the performances. He also added that his former boss, Steve McLaren,
also wanted to sign him for Wolfsburg.
“There was enough interest. Liverpool, Everton and Juventus wanted me in the winter, loaning me out initially with an option to buy. Wolfsburg immediately offered €20 million and a top salary. Hamburg understand my situation, but I want fun in football,”
he was quoted as saying.
Elia hinted towards a possible move to either Liverpool or Juventus, claiming that these two are still the best despite their dismal form in recent seasons. He admitted that he would have been in England or Italy but the club did not want that to happen.
“Sorry, Liverpool remains England's top team and Juventus are still the biggest club in Italy. Bigger than AC Milan, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 and the rest, but Hamburg did not want to let me go,” he concluded.
The Holland International has scored two goals this season and has his name on three assists.
