Elke Biesbrouck overpowers Sinead Chambers in Women’s Singles fight at European Club Championships
Belgium’s talented female shuttler Elke Biesbrouck showed her remarkable craft when she overpowered Ireland’s Sinead Chambers in an interesting Women’s Singles fight at the European Club Championships 2012 in Hungary, on Tuesday, May 29.
Biesbrouck started her campaign in this club tournament in an emphatic fashion as she played impressive badminton in her first fight and defeated her Irish opponent with a respectable score.
The Belgian lady was in full swing when she showed her class and remained successful in winning her match against her Irish challenger in straight sets with a close margin on the score board.
On the other hand, Chambers played good badminton and also remained close to her Belgian opponent in the whole competition but failed to get into commanding position in the ending points of both games and lost the match with a tight score.
In the first game, both ladies entertained the local fans while playing to their maximum speed and remained toe-to-toe in the opening points.
They were quite close on the score board until the mid-game interval in the first set.
After the break, the Irish lady tried to put pressure on her opponent by playing attacking badminton but failed to dictate the pace as Biesbrouck was also quick in taking the bird.
Both ladies remained equal on the score board until the final phase of opening set when Biesbrouck showed her class and took the ending points to win the set with a close score of 21-19.
In the second game, Chambers accelerated her speed in the opening points but again failed to set up a comfortable lead until the one-minute break.
In the meanwhile, Biesbrouck also tried to take advantage in the game but could not create any gap.
After the break, both ladies employed all of their skills to dominate the pace of rallies but failed to take any advantage until the score reached at the crucial stage of 20-20.
At this stage, Biesbrouck played with precision and managed to take two consecutive points and won the set with a margin of 22-20.
Biesbrouck managed to win this interesting battle in 31 minutes with a narrow 21-19 and 22-20 margin on the score board.
