Ellen Fullerton and Leith Brodie earn gold medals: Day three – 2011 Los Angeles Invitational
Ellen Fullerton and Leith Brodie put up a wonderful show to clinch the title in their respective meets on day three of the 2011 Los Angeles Invitational in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, July 17.
The session of the championship conducted the Women’s and Men’ 200m freestyle, Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM), Women’s 1500m freestyle and Men’s 800m freestyle relay finals.
Ellen Fullerton of Australia secured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet, whereas, Leith Brodie of Australia captured the Men’s 200m IM crown. Megan Rankin of Aquazot clinched the Women’s 1500m freestyle crown and Zane Grothe won the Men’s
800m freestyle title.
Initially, Fullerton snared the 200m freestyle title with a winning time of 2 minutes and 00.59 seconds, whereas, Belinda Parslow earned the silver medal in a time of 2 minutes and 00.97 seconds. The bronze medal was clinched by Andie Taylor of Stanford
with a time of 2 minutes and 01.40 seconds. Kate Dwelley of Stanford finished fourth in 2 minutes and 01.57 seconds, while Lynette Lim earned the fifth spot in a time of 2 minutes and 02.20 seconds.
In the Men’s 200m Individual Medley meet, Leith Brodie snared the gold medal with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 01.59 seconds. Tyler Harris of Trojan grabbed silver with a winning time of 2 minutes and 03.41 seconds, while Ben Hinshaw of Palo Alto grabbed
bronze in a time of 2 minutes and 03.54 seconds.
In the meantime, the Women’s 1500m freestyle crown was taken over by Megan Ranking with a triumphant time of 16 minutes and 33.22 seconds. Bonnie Brandon of Mission Aurora earned second spot in a time of 16 minutes and 42.29 seconds. The bronze medal went
to Erin Killey of New South Wales with a time of 16 minutes and 47.94 seconds.
The Men’s 800m freestyle title was clinched by Zane Grothe of BCH Heatwave with a victorious time of 8 minutes and 06.53 seconds, whereas, Ryan Hinshaw of Santa Clara snared silver in a time of 8 minutes and 13.84 seconds. Adam Hinshaw hit the finishing
wall in 8 minutes and 15.16 seconds to win the bronze medal.
