Ellen Fullerton nabs Women’s 200m freestyle title - Australian World Championship Time Trials
Ellen Fullerton of Queensland secured the Women’s 200m freestyle gold medal with a triumphant time of 2 minutes and 00.42 seconds, in the Australian World Championship Time Trials, held at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide, on June 30, 2011.
Mikkayla Sheridan of Chandler wound up second in 2 minutes and 01.77 seconds and Brittany Elmslie of Brothers earned the third place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 01.92 seconds. Darthea Clydsdale of Brothers ended her race in the fourth place with
a time of 2 minutes and 03.06 seconds.
Fullerton said that she felt a huge sigh of relief after retaining her first spot in the 200m freestyle race.
Earlier, Mckeon won the Men’s 200m freestyle meet with a time of 1 minute and 48.74 seconds. Mckendry was placed second in 1 minute and 49.01 seconds, while Hurley earned the third spot in a time of 1 minute and 49.58 seconds. FFrost wound up fourth in a
time of 1 minute and 49.90 seconds.
Marieke Guehrer of Melbourne Vicentre picked up the top seed in the Women’s 100m freestyle with a winning time of 54.29 seconds. Ami Matsuo of Carlile finished second in 55.11 seconds, while Jessica Morrison settled third in 55.14 seconds. Bronte Campbell
of Indooroopilly rounded out the top four in 55.24 seconds.
Melanie Schlanger of Southport Olympic earned the fifth spot in 55.33 seconds, while Libby Trickett of Chandler wound up sixth in time of 55.68 seconds.
While speaking about the Women’s 100m freestyle event, Swimming Australia head coach, Nugent said, “It’s been an interesting couple of sessions really. Last night in the 100m freestyle events there was some pretty sharp swimming and to see Marieke Guehrer
go 54.2 seconds was a good performance.”
On the other hand, Kyle Richardson of Queensland captured the Men’s 100m freestyle event with a sterling time of 48.89 seconds. James Magnussen of Sopac wound up second in 49.07 seconds, whereas, Cameron Mcevoy of Southport Olympic touched the finishing
wall third, in a time of 49.92 seconds.
