Ellen O’Rourke impresses in Women’s 50m freestyle heats – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Ellen O’Rourke of Australia impressed in the preliminary rounds of Women’s 50m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
O’Rourke faced tough competition from Alexandra Purcell of Australia throughout the single lap event but with her unrelenting efforts, she earned her way into the final as most favourite swimmer for the crown of the event.
O’Rourke stayed just an inch ahead of her toughest challenger and rushed her way towards the finishing blockade for fastest qualification spot by touching the wall with a timing of 25.67 seconds.
Her team-member, Purcell remained only 0.07 seconds slower from her and transpired on the finishing end as second fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 25.74 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was followed by Olivia Smoliga of USA, who remained only 0.04 seconds ahead of her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 25.78 seconds.
Smoliga was traced by Simone Manuel of USA, who suffered a loss of 0.09 seconds from her teammate and entered the final round as fourth fastest finisher by producing a time of 25.87 seconds.
Manuel was chased by Victoria Chan of Canada, who stayed 0.25 seconds behind and proved her eligibility for fifth fastest spot of the race by reporting a time of 26.12 seconds.
Chan was trailed by Maho Takiguchi of Japan, who stayed only 0.08 seconds away from her foregoing finisher and settled on the finishing end as sixth best finisher by touching the wall with the timing of 26.20 seconds.
Takiguchi was chased by Rino Hosoda of Japan, who stayed only 0.19 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 26.39 seconds.
Subsequently, Hosoda was followed by Paige Kremer of Canada, who remained 0.27 seconds behind and secured eighth best qualifying position of the event with a timing of 26.76 seconds.
In addition, O’Rourke was extremely pleased after notching up the fastest spot of the event and articulated her desire of reaching the podium for gold medal by continuing the same in the playoff.
