Ellerstina gets second straight win in the Argentina Open Polo Championship: Match Analysis
Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra added another win to its baggage, making it two in a row, ever since the 118th edition of the Argentina Open Polo Championship kicked off. It triumphed over Indios Chapaleufu II Cardon by 21-14. The one-sided game was
played at the Cathedral of Polo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Nachi Heguy joined hands with Facundo Pieres and Gonzalito Pieres to fill the spaces in Ellerstina, that fell vacant after Pablo MacDonough and Juan Martin Nero made their exits.
The latter two joined La Dolfina Dubai, the foursome of the legendary polo pro, Adolfo Cambiaso.
With the performance against Chapa II, Heguy rejected the impression that he cannot be a good companion of Pieres’ brothers.
He lit the lamp six times in the eight chukka of play. Not only did he earn goals but he also helped his teammates in terms of setting up passes and long shots.
Facundo Pieres fired the head start in the early part of the first chukka, putting Ellerstina ahead of Chapa II by 1-0. However, the lead had a short life and Julio Arellano tied the knots at one-each.
Gonzalito Pieres and Nachi Heguy marked one goal each, concluding the first period with Ellerstina enjoying a two-goal advantage, 3-1.
Arellano of Chapa II unfolded the second period with a lone goal to show his presence in the game. Ellerstina dominated the remaining time, acquiring three unanswered goals.
Nachi Heguy struck a couple of goals while Nico Pieres accompanied him from a field attempt, taking the Ellerstina’s lead up to four goals, 6-2, with two chukkas completed in the match.
Nachi Heguy began the third frame with a well-organised goal, expanding the lead for Ellerstina up to five.
In the later part of the game, Facundo Pieres (Ellerstina) and Eduardo Heguy (Chapa II) exchanged one goal each, closing the third round with Chapa II sitting behind by five goals, 8-3.
Chapa II showed a few signs of life by scoring three goals equally in response to Ellerstina’s efforts in the fourth round.
Eduardo Heguy lit the lamp twice while Arellano faced a single moment of joy for Chapa II while the troika of Nico Pieres, Facundo Pieres and Nachi Heguy hit one goal each for Ellerstina.
With a five-goal lead, 11-6, at halftime, Ellerstina was in no mood to allow Chapa II to close in at the score-board.
Facundo Pieres, Nachi Heguy and Gonzalito Pieres served their team in terms of three, one and one goal, respectively. On the other hand, Chapa II remained blank during the fifth set of play.
Arellano notched the only goal in the sixth period while Eduardo Heguy gained one point for Chapa II in the seventh frame.
Heguy marked two goals while Nico, Facundo and Gonzalito added one tally apiece in the Ellerstina’s total.
Chapa II charged up in the final chukka but six goals were not enough to win the game. Eduardo Heguy fired four notches while Alejandro Astrada earned two goals to his credit.
After the eight chukka of play, Ellerstina won the game by 21-14, and will have to face Alegria in the next match of the Argentina Open Polo Championship.
