Ellerstina outplays Estancia Grande to ride into the Argentina Open Polo Championship Finals
Unquestionably, Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra is having outstanding performances in the ongoing season and it appears to be in no mood of accepting a defeat anytime in the near future.
It upheld its unbeatable record, trouncing Estancia Grande Sancor Seguros, 18-14, in the semi-final match of the Argentina Open Polo Championship. The heated game was played at the Cathedral of Polo, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It is worth highlighting here that Ellerstina will play against La Dolfina Dubai in the finals of the Argentina Open Polo Championship, for the third time in the season.
Ellerstina lifted the title of the Tortugas Open Polo Championship, while La Dolfina clinched the Hurlingham Open Polo Championship, the first and second leg tournaments of the Triple Crown.
Facundo Pieres got the head start for Ellerstina in the very early minute of the first chukka, marking a goal from the field.
In the latter period, Facundo Pieres (Ellerstina) scored two goals while Nico Pieres accompanied him with a single notch from the field.
From the other side, Sebastian Merlos and Agustin Merlos scored one goal each, closing the first round with Estancia Grande trailing behind by two goals, 4-2.
The second frame opened with a goal from Agustin Merlos, but it was the only goal of Estancia Grande in the seven and a half minutes of play.
Facundo Pieres lit the lamp twice while Nachi Heguy and Nico Pieres helped Ellerstina in expanding its lead up to five notches, 8-3, at the end of the second frame.
In an unparallel move, Estancia Grande allowed Ellerstina only for a single goal, while acquiring three back to back goals in the third period.
Agustin Merlos whacked a couple of penalty shots while Lucas Monteverde accounted for a lone notch, reducing the Ellerstina’s lead down to three goals, 9-6.
The fourth period unfolded by a couple of penalty goals from Facundo Pieres, expanding the Ellerstina’s advantage up to five.
Agustin Merlos and Gonzalito Pieres exchanged one goal each, closing out the period with Estancia Grande trailing behind by five goals, 12-7, at halftime.
The two foursomes exchanged two goals in the fifth set of play, taking the score to 14-9, with three chukkas left to play. Facundo Pieres and Agustin Merlos were the point scorers for Ellerstina and Estancia Grande, respectively.
Agustin Merlos registered four goals, two each in the sixth and seventh frames. Gonzalito Pieres notched two goals for Ellerstina in the second last period, taking the score to 16-13, with seven minutes left to fight.
Facundo Pieres and Nico Pieres marked one goal apiece against the single notch of Agustin Merlos.
After the eight-chukka of play, Ellerstina won the match by 18-14, securing a berth in the Argentina Open Polo Championship final.
