Ellie Cole seizes Women’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Ellie Cole of Australia seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle in S9 category on ninth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, September 7.
Cole served notice of her immaculate efforts in the 100m discipline as she devastated hopes of her challengers and earned her way to the top of medal rostrum for gold medal.
Her impressive pace remained considerably faster from her toughest challenger, Natalie du Toit of South Africa, as Cole hit the finishing blockade for the crown of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 02.77 seconds.
The champion was followed by du Toit, who stayed nearly 0.70 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade as second best finisher with a timing of 1 minute and 03.45 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Sarai Gascon of Spain, who remained only 0.17 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 03.62 seconds.
Gascon was chased by Ping Lin of China, who stayed half body length slower from her former finisher and failed to reach the podium as she ended her swim in fourth best place with an effort of 1 minute and 04.27 seconds.
Subsequently, Lin remained 0.18 seconds faster from Louise Watkin of Great Britain, who made her way to the finishing blockade as fifth fastest swimmer by tapping the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 04.45 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was obtained by Elizabeth Stone of USA, who stayed 0.98 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended her swim in sixth best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 05.43 seconds.
Stone was trailed by Annabelle Williams of Australia, who was 0.30 seconds apart and finished seventh with a timing of 1 minute and 05.73 seconds.
Williams remained nearly one stroke ahead of Lauren Steadman of Great Britain, who ended eighth in the race with an effort of 1 minute and 06.07 seconds.
In addition, Cole expressed happiness over her victory after the event.
