Elliot Kear believes Wales will learn alot from defeat against England - Rugby League
Elliot Kear, the leading try-scorer for Wales, shared his thoughts with the media on Sunday, October 30, and said that his side may have lost 4-42 in Saturday night’s clash against England, but there is a lot to learn from their embarrassing defeat.
There is no doubt that the English side was already well aware of its strength over the other side despite their publicly refuting the widely prevalent notion.
With this win, one thing about the Welsh side has been clarified that their defence is very weak, which is evident from the fact that they had created way to many opportunities for their opponents to score.
England on the other hand had established a lead from the beginning of the clash, which stretched completely unanswered by the end of the half time of the game. Four out of eight tries for the English side were thanks to Sam Tomkins, whose on field brilliance
won him the Man of the Match award.
Wales, featuring eight part time players, failed to match up to the level of game that was expected if full time players like, Peter Lupton and Lloyd White, were not left out of the match because of their injuries.
While lauding England's performance, Kear said, “England scored a lot of tries off the back of our mistakes but I'm really proud of all the lads. I thought we dug in really well. You never want to start a rugby league game with someone getting knocked out
in the first tackle but I think we picked ourselves up after that. I'm happy we didn't get whitewashed and I'm glad I got a try as well.”
Wales will improve on their game as they get the chance to play against the stronger sides in contention but Kear, who will join Bradford for the 2012 Super League season, believes that his initial showdown will be improved because of the lessons learned.
He further added that his side needs to work on keeping possession of the ball for much longer, as their attacking game is already good, all they need to focus on is pushing the ball to the other side of the field more. He also said that the game needs to
more competitive from their side.
