The Trail Blazers backup guard will miss out entire next season...
Portland Trail Blazers backup guard Elliot Williams suffered a serious blow when he tore his left Achilles during an offseason workout on Tuesday. Joe Freeman of the Oregonian reported the injury on Twitter, which has been confirmed
by the franchise.
The injury will likely see Williams undergoing surgery, which means he is out for the upcoming season. Players usually take around a year to recover from torn Achilles.
Williams was looking forward to playing for Portland next season. Injuries are not something new to the young guard. He missed his rookie season in 2010-2011 with a knee injury, and played only 24 games for Portland last season,
which was his second in the league. During that span, he averaged 6.2 minutes per game last season and scored 3.7 points on average before being sidelined for the rest of the season with shoulder injury.
The latest injury will not be good for his career in the NBA, or his contract with the Trail Blazers. He now has a chance of being red flagged in the NBA due to his inability to stay away from injuries.
Portland are looking towards next season as the one in which they will make an entry in the Western Conference scene, with a new general manager in Neil Olshey and a good looking roster.
Olshey joined the Trail Blazers in the summer, after a successful stint with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he oversaw the signing of point guards Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups. He comes to Portland with expectations of making
the Trail Blazers worthy contenders in the Western Conference.
The Trail Blazers re-signed forward Nicolas Batum in the offseason, who was a restricted free agent. Batum was one of the standout players from last season, and had a four year offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves worth $46 million.
Portland matched the offer to retain the star player. They also have prospective franchise player LaMarcus Aldridge in the roster, who will look to make an impression in the league next season after a great 2011-2012 campaign.
With expectations of a better year than the previous one, Portland is buzzing with excitement regarding the new NBA season. Sadly, Williams will not be a part of the playing roster to enjoy it.
