Ellis Hobbs out for the season with neck injury
Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Ellis Hobbs will reputedly miss the remainder of the season after suffering a neck injury from a helmet-to-helmet hit in the team's 27-17 win over the New York Giants
on Sunday 21 November, according to CSNPhilly.com who cited a league souurce.
Hobbs was injured while returning the second half kick-off. Hobbs laid on the field for several minutes before being carted off. It was reported by NBC that Hobbs was seen walking unaided while wearing
a neck brace after receiving x-rays, which came back negative indicating that there were no broken bones.
Hobbs is apparently suffering from a disc injury, similar to, but not related to the type of injury that ended his season back in 2009 – just one year and ten days prior to the injury last Sunday.
"He does have a disc injury in there – not the same disc that he had before," Eagles coach Andy Reid told reporters. "We're just going to take our time and further evaluate it and see how he does."
At the time of the injury, Hobbs aparently wanted to leave the field on his own, but Reid would not let him.
"He was upset because he wanted to get up and go," Reid told the press after the game. "Sometimes that happens in those situations. I told him to stay down there and trust the guys that were working with
him. I said, ‘Let’s just make sure things are OK, and let’s not do anything stupid here.'"
Hobbs has yet to play a full season for the Eagles since coming over from the New England Patriots in a trade that sent two fifth round draft picks to the Pats.
The 27-year-old had become the team's number one kick returner and had been having a decent year on defence with 16 tackles and one interception.
"I love that kid, he is a tough, tough, tough guy," Reid said on Monday. "That was hard to watch yesterday, I'm just hoping for the best for him."
