Elna 9000 sews automatically

Question

Hi,
When i turn on my elna 9000 it starts sewing automatically. I can push on the foot pedal and it will go quicker. However, if i stop the automatic sewing by pressing the X or C (clear) i cannot sew again. Is this an automatic sewing selection? Can it be turned to manual? or is the problem something larger?
