Elsa Ericsson accomplishes Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
Elsa Ericsson went full rampant in the Women’s 400m freestyle playoff and accomplished gold medal of the event on second day of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
The 16-year-old Ericsson showed no mercy to her challengers in the eight-lap event. She experienced strong resistance from Josefine Hippi and Amina Gummesson in the mediocre distance freestyle discipline but succeeded in spoiling their party by earning gold medal of the event.
The first lap of the race was dominated by Gummesson, who outperformed Ericsson by clocking a time of 1 minute and 04.06 seconds for the initial 100 metres of the race. Ericsson remained 0.63 seconds behind and covered her first round of the swim with an effort of 1 minute and 04.69 seconds. Hippi remained third fastest player of the race as she hit the wall with timing of 1 minute and 05.00 seconds.
They continued their phenomenal efforts in the second round, where Ericsson managed to gain a lead of 0.06 seconds over Gummesson by clocking 2 minutes and 13.04 seconds in the first half. Similarly, Gummesson ended her initial half of the race by posting an effort of 2 minutes and 13.10 seconds while Hippi clocked 2 minutes and 13.35 seconds.
The competition grew stronger in the third round, where Ericsson submitted a time of 3 minutes and 20.18 seconds. Hippi transpired as the second fastest swimmer in the third round, as she reported 3 minutes and 20.46 seconds while Gummesson remained significantly behind and ended her round with an effort of 3 minutes and 23.37 seconds.
Ericsson went on a rampage in the final round and ensured her top position on the podium with the timing of 4 minutes and 25.56 seconds. She was trailed by Hippi and Gummesson, who completed their swims in second and third place with timings of 4:25.64 and 4:34.22 minutes, respectively.
In addition, the spectators appreciated remarkable efforts of all contestants in the 400m discipline while the position holders were called upon the victory stand for their unmatchable performance in the event after the conclusion of session.
