Elton Brand fires as Philadelphia 76ers humiliate Sacramento Kings 112-85: NBA Recap
Philadelphia 76ers are proving a point - a team can do well even without the presence of super stars.
They have only lost two games in the condensed season so far and both of them were close losses, which could have easily been avoided had they managed to hold nerves in the ending moments. On Tuesday night, they continued with
the brilliant work and grabbed their sixth consecutive win by routing Sacramento Kings 112-85, to improve their record to 7-2.
And once again it was completely a team effort.
Elton Brand, who has looked offbeat and had a quiet tournament so far, marshalled the 76ers with a game high 21 points on 10 for 14 from the floor and 10 rebounds. He struggled in the first half, but picked up momentum in the
second and never looked back after wards.
"I wasn't frustrated at all," Brand said after the game. "If we win, I'm happy. I always have confidence in my game. I'm not impatient. I knew eventually my time would come where I'll be the go-to guy."
Jrue Holiday had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists whereas Evan Turner nearly missed a triple-double (16 points, 10 boards, 8 assists). Louis Williams chipped in with 15 points and Jodie Meeks pounded 14 including 3 for 5 from
the long range.
The Sixers were phenomenal with their shooting, ending with a healthy 56.6% from the floor and also spread the court better, at 30-16.
DeMarcus Cousins led the Kings with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Tyreke Evans had 15 points while the reserve Jason Thompson accumulated 13 points on 6 for 7 from the floor. Rookie Jimmer Fredette, who had his first start in the
game, failed to fire tonight and only managed to bundle out 7 points in nearly 24 minutes on the court.
Kings fought the first half gallantly and despite trailing behind by 10 points by the end of the it, 42-52, were pretty much in the game.
It was the third frame that completely turned the game in 76ers favour.
They started the quarter with a magnificent 19-5 burst, capped by Holiday’s bank shot, to get complete control of the game and then used a flurry of three pointers in the dying minutes of the quarter to ensure a massive 84-60 lead
going into the fourth.
Kings, who were already struggling to find the baskets, succumbed to the pressure of the mammoth deficit and only managed to score 25 points in the last quarter, when they actually needed to score around 50 plus.
