Elton Chigumbura’s ton takes Zimbabwe to 244-8
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on 15 February, 2011.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first with the openers Brendan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 and Charles Coventry. The beginning was reckless as the first 3 wickets were down for just 11 runs on the board. Taylor was the first one to go when he was caught by keeper Gary
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wilson-c98046 off Trent Johnston for just 1 run.
Coventry followed Taylor for odd 7 runs and was caught by Wilson off Boyd Rankin for 5 runs.
Sean http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 did not stay at the crease longer and went back for 3 runs. Williams fell to a catch again by the keeper off Johnston.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tatenda-Taibu-c92882 was joined by Craig Ervine. They played cautiously and made a partnership of 62 runs before Ervine was run out for 27 runs. It was time for Chigumbura to join aggressive Taibu. Once score reached 100, Taibu was caught by Andrew White off Albert
Van der Merwe for 45.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Prosper-Utseya-c82728 joined Chigumbura who took the complete charge at the other end. They crossed 50-run mark and took the score to 154 before Ultseya fell to a catch by Andrew Botha for 26.
Zimbabwe’s six wickets were down in the 42nd over and the batting revolved around Chigumbura who was facing the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 bowlers successfully. He played a Herculean innings and took the score to 244 in 50 overs.
Zimbabwe lost two more wickets in the process. Shingirai Masakadza was caught by Van der Merwe off Botha for just 1 run. Graeme Cremer was bowled by Alex Cusack for 6 as Greg Lamb was not out at 7 runs.
Johnston was the most successful bowler of Ireland who grabbed 2 wickets for just 9 runs in 5 overs and Botha claimed 2 wickets as well.
Ireland has to play with concentration to achieve the target of 244 runs which may be difficult but is not impossible.
