Elvis Andrus’ double RBIs help Texas Rangers defeat Cleveland Indians 5-3 - MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ short-stop, Elvis Andrus had an outstanding day with the bat as he hit two RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .280 in the Rangers’ 5-3 win against the Cleveland Indians at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on August 7.
In the first inning, the batters got out without giving their team a convincing lead. Indians’ batters struggled at the top of the first inning as at centre-field Michael Brantley flied out while Jason Kipnis and Asdrubal Cabrera both were grounded out to
second base without taking even a single run.
Similarly, the Rangers were outclassed by the Indians’ pitchers at the bottom of the first inning as at the third base, Ian Kinsler grounded out, at the right-field Andrus flied out and Josh Hamilton struck-out swinging.
Indians got off the mark with a single run during the second inning to take a 1-0 lead when Lonnie Chisenhall hit a sacrifice fly towards centre-field and Travis Hafner added one run. The pitchers again won the battle and threw their score-less pitches in
the third and fourth inning of the game.
During the fifth inning, the Indians raised their lead 2-0 when Brantley hit a triple-run shot to deep centre-field and Ezequiel Carrera contributed a single run. Indians remained on top until the seventh inning as the Rangers were not able to score runs.
The Rangers’ batters missed some runs during the seventh inning when Michael Young occupied third base on an infield single but at left-field Hamilton flied out and at third base Nelson Cruz grounded out.
Eighth inning was full of runs for both sides as the Indians took a single run to extend their lead while the Rangers broke their silence with a blast and scored five runs to take a 5-3 lead, at the bottom of the inning. Brantley homered (357 feet) towards
right-field to put the last run for the Indians.
On the other side, Mike Napoli scored the first run for the Rangers when Daniel Murphy hit a single-run shot to centre-field. The last four runs were taken by Mitch Moreland, Andres Blanco, Murphy and Kinsler to end the five-run campaign.
As a result, the Rangers confirmed a 2-1 victory against the Indians in the three-game series played at Texas.
