Elvis Andrus explains why Texas Rangers are ready for the World Series, this year
The Texas Rangers are glad to be back in a position they were hoping to be in since the end of the last year’s postseason. The club lost the World Series in 2010 to the San Francisco Giants but now they have the chance to win it in 2011. With the club scheduled
to meet the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium for Game 1, there have been worries as to whether the club is prepared or not. Elvis Andrus explained why they are, on Monday, October 17.
"We're in better shape right now as a team," Andrus said. "Mentally, we're better prepared, too. When you get to this point, I think we had so much joy about beating the Yankees [in the 2010 American League Championship Series], we lost a little bit of focus.
This year, it's a different way, our mental approach is so much different. We're really happy to get back, really blessed to get back, but at the same time, we're focused, because we still know we have more games to go."
In 2010, the Rangers beat the New York Yankees to win the American League Championship Series but they were unable to do the complete job as their premier pitcher, Cliff Lee lost out to the Giants’ Tim Lincecum. This time around it will be C. J. Wilson who
will take the lead and he will be up against the Cardinals’ Chris Carpenter.
Andrus has been an inspirational figure in the field and on the plate. Being a 23-year-old with two straight years of World Series experience will make him a very famous figure back home, in Venezuela, but there is reason to believe the shortstop is aiming
to bag a Ring from the contest, this time around.
The infielder has been a quiet figure in the postseason, as he has a hitting average of just .205 in the last ten games. He has driven in just one run, while he has gone to score five on his own. Manager Ron Washington will be hoping to see the player do
better against the Cardinals.
