Elvis Andrus may not have the best batting average in the postseason, in 2011, but his on field antics are more than satisfactory to place him on top of the selection list in the Texas Rangers roster management office. The player recently spoke of his memorable
assist in the World Series at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis, that got his club a 2 – 1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2. The player passed his comments from the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday, October 21.
Scheduled to play Game 3, Andrus has the admiration of his manager and team mates. Not only did he run home for a 2 – 1 lead in the ninth inning against the Cards in Game 2 but he also provided an inspirational assist in the fifth inning. The shortstop fielded
a smash from Cardinals’ Rafael Furcal and before his dive connected with the ground, he flipped his glove to loft the ball towards second baseman, Ian Kinsler.
The pass was perfect as Kinsler forced Cards’ Jaime Garcia into play and quelled a potentially costly inning against the Rangers. Andrus confessed that the defensive play was the best he could remember. The memory would further be cherished due to the play
being made in the World Series.
"I've made that play a couple of times," Andrus said. "Just the fact that it was in the World Series makes it special. That's a play I'm never going to forget. I've been really focused all season. In this game, you have to be focused pitch-by-pitch - especially
in that situation. You have to make plays. You have to help the pitcher on any chance."
Kinsler was also available to comment on the made by Andrus.
"The play was ridiculous," Kinsler said. "Glove flip was right on the money. It doesn't get any better than that."
The Texas Rangers are looking sharp on the field and if they keep their focus on the World Series title, they will surely bag the ultimate prize this year. For Andrus, this would be a memory that would not be forgotten for his entire life.
