Elvis Andrus shines as Texas Rangers defeat Cleveland Indians 8-7 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ short-stop, Elvis Andrus had a tremendous day with the bat as he went 2-for-5 with an average of .280 and scored a decisive run including one RBI in the Rangers’ 8-7 victory against the Cleveland Indians at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas
on August 5.
Indians got off to an outstanding start as they blasted three runs at the top of the first inning while the Rangers were able to post just one run and reduced their lead 3-1 at the end of first inning. Carlos Santana hit a three-run homer (387 feet) to right-field
while Jason Kipnis and Asdrubal Cabrera both scored two collective runs.
Rangers’ third baseman, Michael Young singled off right-field, Andrus walked and then moved to third base to conclude the first inning. The score-board again moved with a same result as the Indians smashed three runs again and the Rangers added one run to
cut their deficit 6-2 during the second inning.
Kipnis was grounded out towards second base and Austin Kearns contributed one run. The second and third runs for the Indians were taken by Cabrera and Jason Donald both scored two runs jointly when Santana drove towards deep centre-field. On the other side,
Yorvit Torrealba added a single run for the Rangers when Andrus hit towards centre-field and Ian Kinsler occupied third base to end the second inning.
In the third inning, the score-board advanced in a same fashion for both the teams. Shelley Duncan hit a solo homer (439 feet) towards left-field. Conversely, Mike Napoli scored one run for the Rangers when Mitch Moreland drove a double-run shot to deep
right-centre. The Indians were leading 7-3 at the end of third inning.
Fourth and fifth innings were under control of the pitchers and went score-less. At the bottom of the sixth inning, Napoli homered (378 feet) to left-field while Moreland added a single run to shorten the Rangers’ lead 7-5 when Endy Chavez hit a sacrifice
fly to right-field. The game was tied 7-7 in the ninth inning as the Rangers contributed couple of runs. Young struck a two-run homer (422 feet) to centre-field and Josh Hamilton scored a tie run.
At last, the Rangers went ahead 8-7 in the 11th inning when Hamilton moved to short-stop on an infield single and Andrus posted a tie-breaking run. As a result, the Rangers led off 1-0 in the three-game series.
