Elvis Andrus’ stunning throw to tag Ichiro Suziuki out brewing attention
Texas Rangers maintained a steady hype in the air after shortstop, Elvis Andrus, created a buzz in Arlington when he took out the Seattle Mariners’, Ichiro Suzuki, with a stunning throw from second base in the first inning. The first out of the game and
one of the 27 in the midst, took much of the attention from the fans at the Rangers Ballpark.
Andrus impressed his manager and teammates as he converted a good throw for an out. The speedy runner made the most of his throw. He further impressed the roster as he transferred the ball from the glove to his right hand and then threw to make the play
on Suzuki.
"To be honest with you, I thought he had no chance to get him out at first", Adrian Beltre said. "He got there and got rid of the ball quick and on time. I know I haven't seen many shortstops get Ichiro out with that type of play".
Manager Ron Washington was also able to comment on the situation. He told the press that putting Adrian Beltre a little further from the third baseman line allows Andrus to play closer to second base.
"The hit that was taken away from Ichiro was Elvis's athletic ability," Washington said. "And, yes, he might have been a step closer to the middle, but still I've seen him beat that play out. He didn't get it done last night, though. Elvis made one heckuva
a pickup".
Andrus hinted that Ichiro Suzuki may have lost his step in the first inning but the Japanese star has not replied to that belief.
Beltre knows better though as he’s been a teammate of five years with the Mariner’s star in the past.
Beltre contradicted his teammate as he told the press that he thinks Suzuki has not lost a step. He clarified his opinion by stating that he usually has to deal with how fast the hitter swings and gets out of the batter’s box.
