Elvis Reifier dies at the age of 50 – Cricket News Update
Elvis Reifer, the former Barbados pace bowler, passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 50.
Born on March 21, 1961 in Saint George, Barbados, Reifer was a left-arm medium pacer and a useful lower-order batsman. He was one of the four members of his family who played for the Barbados in the domestic circuit of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
His brothers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Floyd-Lamonte-Reifer-c57061 also played for Barbados and has been a fixture with the regional side Combined Campuses and Colleges for the past four
seasons. Elvis’s son, Raymon Reifer made his first class debut for the CCC this season.
The Barbadian was signed by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 County Cricket Club in 1984 at the age of 23, without having even a single first class appearance in his name. It was a gamble which backfired at the county later on as his 41 Championship scalps cost the Hawks 41.53
each.
The same season he was signed by Barbados. Overall, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Charles-Jefford-Nicholas-c74564 has 49 first-class wickets in his name from 21 first class matches at an average of 36.95 and an economy rate of 3.37 per over. The all-rounder scored 408 runs including a lone half century of his
career.
In all, he played 21 first-class matches, scoring 408 runs at 22.66, and snaring 49 wickets at 36.95 apiece.
Elvis’ List A form was comparatively more promising where he had claimed 19 wickets from 19 One-Day appearances at an average of 34.26 and an economy rate of 4.34.
He had limited success, scalping 41 English County Championship wickets at 41.53 apiece, although his One-day form was more promising.
Reifer was not retained the following season, and played one more first-class game, when he bowled 12 wicketless overs for Barbados.
