Emancipation at 20 years old?

Can my boyfriend get emancipated from his mom for college? He's 20 years old and wants to use his own income for fafsa.

  1. Emancipation is something kids do when they are under 18.  Not likely.  Unless he has a c**p load of money to pay for a lawyer.... he'd be better off using the money to pay for his tuition because if he does have that kind of money, he isn't likely going to qualify for the free money for college even without his mothers income.


  2. If he meets certain criteria he can file to be independent. He has to prove that he finacially supports himself, and his mother doesn't help in anyway and hasn't for sometime. Otherwise he will have to use her income too.
